As President of the CSB
Parents and Friends Association, I welcome you to use and enjoy our
new website. Our members and volunteer website designers have built
what I believe is an outstanding resource for parents of visually
impaired and blind children. We are excited to be able to share this
wealth of resources with you.
When I became President
of PFA seven years ago, PFA had only three members Marianne O'Conner,
Sue Sitler, and myself. We have worked hard since then to build our
membership with the goal of enhancing our children’s extracurricular
activities. We now have many more members including parents, CSB faculty
and staff, and interested friends.
PFA’s main goal is to
enable our children to participate in activities that are not State-funded.
For example, in the last few years, PFA has funded scholarships for
students to attend Space Camp, kayaking trips, adaptive sports, water-skiing,
school trip fields, a Senior Prom, pizza parties, and a par-course
for fitness training. Additionally, we sponsor an annual Staff Appreciation
Day to show our very dedicated staff and faculty how much we appreciate
their commitment to our children. We also fund projects requested
by CSB teachers (e.g., microwaves in the classrooms so they students
can learn cooking skills, field trips, PE equipment, and microphones).
We hope that our website
will provide you with information you can use to ensure that your
child receives enriching educational and social experiences. We also
hope that you will become members of PFA, and assist us to the extent
that you can- either as a volunteer, by providing information to other
parents, donating new or used equipment from our Wish List, making
tax-exempt donations, or allowing PFA to receive rebates from our
shopping partners for your online purchases. All of our efforts directly
benefit our children, and we hope you will become a part of that endeavor.
