These are the programs that are running currently at Perhaps.. Kids Meeting Kids Can Make A Difference
-
Volunteer Program – There are two parts to our volunteer program. The main program runs year round and is about involving youth in their communities and schools. The second is our internship program, which runs during the school year. It requires young people to be active participants in the different working groups at the United Nations on behalf of children. These committees include but not limited to: The Girl Child NGO committee, The Convention on the Rights of the Child Committee, and the Education Committee. Youth also help in running workshops, congresses, and other events.
-
Pen-Pal Program – The purpose of the program is to give children the opportunity to discuss issues affecting them and their peers in their local communities and the global community as well. It gives them a chance to learn about each other’s culture and lives without having to travel thousands of miles. Plus they get to learn about each other’s countries and traditions through their pen pal’s eyes. Through our program we bring together children from, the United States and kids from all over the world.
-
Children’s Rights Congress – An annual conference honoring the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. The convention is a document that was adopted by all member states to the United Nations in 1989 and instituted as international law in 1990. The CRC is the world’s most comprehensive and ratified international agreement on the basic protections that should be given to children. Every year, young delegates from many member nations of the United Nations meet for the day. They will spend time working and playing together… and they think about what children and grownups have done and can do to help children in every country of the world. The youth participants develop plans for further work, which they can share with other young people and adults.
-
Days Against Violence – A series of youth-run workshops targeting violence and conflicts which children face in their everyday life. We look at the root causes of their problems and help young people find positive solutions to them. Workshops are run throughout the year at schools, community centers and youth organizations.
-
Children’s Rights Workshops – They are a series of workshops based on the efforts of the Children’s Rights Congress to raise awareness among youth in the United States and across the world. It’s also a continuous effort to help the Campaign to Ratify the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child in the United States, as well as enforce it across all the nations of the world.
